Wildcat and Big Kitten Lake are listed as Class "A" Musky waters. There are excellent oppurtunities for action with Muskies here. The Wildcat lake chain is a relatively shallow drainage lake. Water clarity is good. There are abundant weed beds and good shoreline structure. With 5 islands the lake fishes larger than its 360 acres. Walleye are found here in good numbers as well. Smallmouth, largemouth, Crappie, and Bluegills are also common. Northern pike are present but not common.

Guests may swim off the pier or swim raft. There is a sandy bottom and a gradual drop off to about 5 feet. The water is clear.

The Wildcat chain of lakes is a haven for wildlife. Much of the lake is surrounded by the Northern Highland State Forest and much of the shoreline is undeveloped. There are five state owned islands on the lake. Loons, eagles, herons, hummingbirds, and pileated woodpeckers are common sightings. Deer can be seen right around the cabin or often come to drink at the lake at dusk. Beavers and Otters are also lake residents and are often seen.

Some of the most beautiful trails in the state are just minutes from the cabin. Two of the best are the Escanaba-Pallette Lake Trail and Razorback Ridges.
